5 Things Your Homepage Needs to Do

A strong homepage doesn't just look good, it does a job. These are the five things every small business homepage needs to do to turn visitors into enquiries.

Your homepage is usually the most visited page on your website, and the one with the hardest job. It has to welcome strangers, explain what you do and move them towards becoming a customer. Here are the five things it needs to get right.

1. Say what you do in five seconds

Your headline should answer “what is this and is it for me?” immediately. Lead with the outcome your customer wants, not a clever slogan. “Websites that turn visitors into clients” says more than “Digital excellence, redefined.”

2. Show who it is for

People want to feel they are in the right place. Mention the type of customer, the industry or the location you serve so the right visitors recognise themselves straight away.

3. Prove you are worth it

Claims are easy, so back them up. Testimonials, reviews, numbers, recognisable clients and examples of your work turn “they say they are good” into “other people say they are good”.

4. Give one clear next step

Pick the single most valuable action, whether that is a call, a quote request or a WhatsApp message, and make it the star of the page. Repeat it near the top, in the middle and at the end.

5. Load fast and work on mobile

None of the above matters if the page takes too long to appear or breaks on a phone. Speed and mobile experience are not technical extras; they are the foundation everything else stands on.

A strong homepage doesn't just look good. It works hard.

If your homepage is missing a few of these, we can help. Request a free website preview and see a homepage built around all five.
